Safe and Sound is an initiative of Voluntary Action Epping Forest, designed to reduce the number of falls by older people in their homes.
It is part of Epping Forest Falls Prevention Strategy and is funded by Essex County Council, Epping Forest District Council and NHS West Essex.
Many accidents in the home are preventable. Slips trips and falls account for half of all accidents involving older people. Our aim is to reduce falls in the home by giving advice and carrying out minor repairs and improvements free of charge.
The scheme is available to anyone aged 60 or over and living in the Epping Forest District. It doesn't matter whether you own your own home, are a council or private tenant, or live in sheltered accommodation. Nor are your financial circumstances relevant.
The service is FREE - there is no charge for the survey or any of the work we do.
Just contact us, our Co-ordinator will make an appointment to visit you in your home and will carry out a survey to identify hazards and shortcomings, which could cause a fall.
The Co-ordinator will inform you of what he has found and his recommendations as to what action should be taken to reduce the risk of you having a fall.
If you agree, he will then arrange for the repairs to be carried out. Volunteers can carry out the work or certain jobs may need qualified contractors.
