(Gardening Service)

What do we do?

When gardens and lawns become overgrown, most of us find it a nuisance. People who are physically unable to do their gardens find it distressing, particularly those who are usually housebound. The aim of the garden service is to provide volunteers to maintain the gardens of people who cannot manage unaided. The service is available to all clients living in the Epping Forest District.

The Mow and Grow gardening service provides a practical service which enables people to go on living independently. The project also brings together clients and volunteers who benefit from the social interaction of the projects.

Who can use our service?

The free service is available to elderly people in Epping Forest District who cannot maintain their gardens on their own and do not have family support networks. The demand is so great that there is usually a waiting list.

How can I help? Mow and Grow Volunteering

Mow & Grow volunteers can be of all ages from all different sectors of the community. You do not need to have any specialist gardening skills - most of the work involves simple weeding, pruning, mowing or trimming.

Volunteers work with a gardener and are given training and equipment.

The scheme operates on alternate Mondays and every Tuesdays and Thursday and you will be part of a team. Volunteers' hours can be flexible and arranged through the Mow & Grow Administrator.

Mow & Grow would welcome links with schools and youth or community groups who would like to become involved with this service.

Mow & Grow Volunteering - What to do next?

Contact Voluntary Action Epping Forest - 01992 564 256 and arrange an appointment , come in for an informal interview and to register as a volunteer.

As the service involves visiting people in their own homes we request that you provide names and addresses of two people who can act as character referees. Potential volunteers must also disclose all convictions (even those which are spent.

As soon as your reference and checks are received you will be also to join the team.
