The volunteers Plus Learning Disabilities Project provides support for people with Learning Disabilities who would like to volunteer. Sally Panrucker our Learning Disability Officer can help you by:

  • Providing a one to one service for individuals who want to volunteer
  • Accompanying you to visit the possible volunteering opportunities
  • Training for volunteers including on site training
  • On going support for volunteers with any questions or problems concerning their volunteering
  • Arranging 'one off' fun volunteering opportunities and Social Activities

As well as individual volunteering opportunities there are a number of supported group volunteering activities available. Whilst these groups provide support for people with learning disabilities they are open to everyone to join.

Supported Group Opportunities

There are three regular group volunteering project opportunities and several more 'one day' group volunteering activities are organised through the year. Although the groups provide support to people with learning disabilities they are open to everyone. We actively encourage anyone to join the groups and no previous experience or skills are required.

Singing Group (visiting older people's homes)

'All Together Now' is an entertainment party. We practice singing fortnightly and then visit older people's hoes in the area and encourage residents to join in a good old fashioned 'sing-along'.

The group recently visited The Frank Foster Retirement Home in Theydon Bois, and with the support of some of the members of the Three Valley Male Voice Choir entertained the residents with renditions of both old and new sing-a-long songs. The Deputy Manager of the Home, Angela Clarke said 'it was a lovely experience for all those involved. Our residents really enjoyed mixing with the young people and it is definitely something to be encouraged'.

Talk and Sort

'Talk and Sort' is a 'mail out' group that meets every other Monday at The Quaker Meeting House, Epping. The group helps local organisations with large administration jobs such as stuffing envelopes, labelling and stuffing goody bags. The group has worked on a variety of projects including a large mail out for the Salvation Army.
